The Highland County Press-
The annual American Association of University Women (AAUW) candidates forum is scheduled for 6-8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 in the Lecture Room at Southern State Community College's Central Campus in Hillsboro.

Sponsored by the Hillsboro area chapter of the AAUW, WVNU-FM Radio, The Highland County Press and Southern State Community College, the forum provides an opportunity for voters to become better informed on the issues and candidates on the Nov. 3 general election ballot. For the sake of brevity, this year's forum will be limited to all candidates for the Greenfield City Council (Tati Cunningham, Betty Jackman, Brenda Losey and Gary Miller) and the Hillsboro City Council (Lee Koogler, Peter Pence, Rod Daniels, Mary Brown Turner, Bill Alexander, David Shoemaker, Brian Waller and Bonnie Parr).

A spokesperson for the Paint Township fire levy also will be invited to speak prior to the candidates forum.

"Due to the time constraints and the numerous races and issues across the county, we have decided to focus on the two city councils this year," said AAUW member Rosemary Ryan, who organizes the forum. "We do invite everyone running for office or presenting issues on the general election ballot to attend the forum. We also invite the public and all area media."

Council candidates from Greenfield and Hillsboro will be asked to give an opening statement, after which a series of questions will be asked by forum panelists Sue Hillger, AAUW; Cindi Pearce, former newspaper editor and reporter; and Rory Ryan, publisher and editor of The Highland County Press. WVNU general manager Pat Hays will serve as the forum moderator.

The forum will be broadcast live on WVNU-FM Radio, 97.5 MHz. The annual event is presented as a candidates forum, not a political debate.[[In-content Ad]]
