2013 New Directions telethon airs Jan. 22
The 20th annual New Directions telethon, a fundraiser to benefit the Greenfield-based ministry, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 7-9 p.m., and will air on Time Warner Cable Channel 3 and on WVNU 97.5.
The ministry program of New Directions, a Greenfield community youth organization, includes game nights for middle and high school students, live bands, mission trips and other activities for local youth.
New Directions Director of Youth Ministries Mike Anderson said that this year’s program will include testimonies from New Directions students, who will discuss what New Directions means to them. New Directions students and other volunteers will also perform music during the event.
The event’s hosts will be Buckskin Elementary Principal Mike Shumate; Tati Weaks, a Greenfield Middle School teacher and adult volunteer at New Directions; and student emcee Kalei Fabin, a freshman at McClain High School.

The telethon is a chance for the community to make a financial pledge to support New Directions for 2013, Anderson said. To make a pledge during the telethon, call (937) 981-7731. Operators will take pledges, which will be read on the air (with donors’ permission). Donations may be mailed before or after the telethon to New Directions, P.O. Box 25, Greenfield, Ohio 45123. Donations are tax-deductible.
Anyone wishing to visit during the telethon can stop by the GCTV-3 studio and McClain High School, where Anderson said there will be “food, fellowship and prayer.” Donations can also be made in person.
Anderson also said that the telethon will give New Directions an opportunity to discuss the group’s upcoming move to a new home on North Fifth Street. The late George Waddell of Greenfield donated $275,000 to the Greenfield Area Christian Center, and a new building is being constructed.
“We are very appreciative of the support of the community down through the years, and we look forward to another great year in 2013,” Anderson said.
