RIPLEY — The Fairfield Lions invaded the home of the Ripley Blue Jays Friday night, and left with five runs on 10 hits to seal a Southern Hills League victory, 5-3 over their league rival.
The win puts the Lions at 3-1 in the SHL.
FHS didn't waste any time adding runs to their side, gaining the early advantage and never trailing the entire game.
In the first, FHS scored four runs and added one more in the fifth for their five-run total.
RHS scored one run each in the first, fourth and sixth innings.
In the top of the first, the Lions came out with four runs for the early 4-0 lead. Ian Adams began with a base hit to leadoff the inning. Kyle Carson followed with a single, and Nathaniel Miller, the third batter of the inning, loaded the bases with the Lions' third base hit of the inning.
Tyler Campbell scored two runners with a double, allowing Adams and Carson to cross home plate, moving Miller to third with no outs.
Cody Bennett, with one out, scored Miller on a suicide squeeze for the third run of the inning. Jordan Boles followed with a walk, and Cody Tolle wrapped up the five-hit, four-run first inning with a base hit to score Campbell.
Ripley answered with one run in their half of the first, with Ravyé Williams scoring on a wild pitch. He singled to leadoff the inning for the Blue Jays.
RHS cut the Lions' lead in half in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run when Jordan Zwigart scored on a sacrifice fly to right field, hit by Tommy Ramsey.
The Lions answered with one final run scored in the fifth, when Adams led off the inning with a single, scoring on a base hit by Carson. Adams reached third base on a errant throw to first after he was already safe at the base.
Ripley scored their final run in the sixth inning with Zweigart scoring on a base hit by Kirschner.
The win went to Miller. Miller (3-0) pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs on four hits and one walk. He struck out nine. This season, Miller has allowed just eight hits in three starts against Whiteoak, North Adams and RHS.
On Friday, Miller had three innings where he faced three batters.
Adams, Carson, Miller and Campbell all went 2-for-4 at the plate. Adams scored two runs and Carson had one run and one RBI. Miller scored a run and Campbell had two doubles, with two RBIs and one run.
Bennett and Tolle each had one RBI.
Ramsey was charged with the loss for RHS. He pitched seven innings, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits and two walks.
For RHS, Williams was 1-for-3 with a run, and Kirschner went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Ramsey had an RBI and Chris Johnson had a hit.
