Lions fall to Greyhounds

MANCHESTER — The Fairfield Lions were unable to gain another Southern Hills League win Friday, falling to the Manchester Greyhounds, 7-4 at MHS.

The Lions scored three runs in the first two innings but didn't score again until the sixth inning for their four runs.

Manchester scored one run in the first and third innings, then a combined five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to seal the league win.

The loss drops the Lions to 8-5 overall and 7-3 in the SHL.

At the plate for the Lions, Kyle Carson led with a 2-for-3 day, scoring once and reaching first after being hit by a pitch. Carson now has a nine-game hitting streak, with the last five games gaining at least two hits each game.

Also gaining hits Friday for the Lions were Tyler Campbell, Cody Tolle, Casey Jordan, Joey Wilson and Jordan Boles. Ian Adams drew a walk to reach the bases.

The Lions were first to score, adding one run to the scoreboard in the top of the first.

Adams began the game by taking first on a hit by pitch. He advanced to second when Carson was hit by a pitch, giving the Lions two base runners after two batters.

Nathaniel Miller took first on a fielder's choice as Adams was forced out at third, and Campbell singled to score Carson.

In the second, the Lions added two runs for a 3-1 lead.

Tolle began the inning with a lead-off walk and took second on a fielder's choice, which turned into an error by the Greyhounds. With Tolle and Jordan on the bases,  Wilson doubled, scoring Tolle. Boles hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Jordan from third.

The final FHS run came in the top of the sixth with Jordan scoring on a single by Boles.

The loss on the hill was charged to Nathaniel Miller, who pitched six innings, He allowed seven runs (four earned) on nine hits, two walks and one hit batter. Miller had two strikeouts.

Pete Rigdon of Manchester gained the win. He pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, four walks and two hit batters, Rigdon struck out five.

The Lions are scheduled to host the Peebles Indians on Monday at 5 p.m. at FHS.

On Tuesday, they are scheduled to host East Clinton, and on Wednesday, FHS will host Manchester. FHS will finish the week with two more home games with a game against Blanchester scheduled for Thursday and Eastern Brown on Saturday.[[In-content Ad]]
