PEEBLES — One quarter got out of control for the Fairfield Lions, but that was enough for them to drop their third straight game of the season, 69-45, to the Peebles Indians at PHS, Friday night in Southern Hills League play.
The opening quarter was the worst for the Lions, being outscored 17-4, a 13 point difference by PHS.
In the next two quarters, FHS (0-1, 0-3) was out-scored 40-28, with the second and third quarters being scores of 20-14 each. FHS won the final frame, 13-12.
"The score doesn't reflect our effort," FHS head coach Matt Carson said. "We had a good game plan. We wanted someone other than Blake Justice to beat us, that was our goal, and someone else did."
Justice, who scored 16 total points, was held to four points in the second half. Justice had two 3-pointers, four two-point baskets and was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.
The someone else that did put up points on the Lions was Andy Countryman, who led with a game-high 20 points. He made eight two-point buckets, one 3-pointer, and was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
"We had plenty of shot opportunities under the basket, but we altered our shots, worrying about blocks being made," Carson said. "We need to take advantage of those opportunities. We didn't execute."
FHS was led in scoring by Quentin Williams with 12 points, making one 3-pointer. Williams had a double-double with 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Brandon Carmean had seven points, followed by Cody Tolle and Cody Ferrell with six points each. Ferrell added eight rebounds.
Ian Adams and Cole Putnam each finished with five points. Dakota Hargrave and Austin Hildebrant each scored two points.
"I loved the effort and intensity we played with (Friday)," Carson said. "We just need to put together four complete quarters."
The Lions will host the Whiteoak Wildcats (1-0, 1-2) on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at FHS, in SHL action. The game will also be broadcast on WVNU radio.
