Lady Lions fall to Fayetteville; league season wrapping up

The winning streak by the Fairfield Lady Lions was ended, and with that, the Fayetteville Lady Rockets took first place in the Southern Hills League all to themselves Tuesday night as they won in three sets, clinching no less than a share of a league title.
Headed into the week, the Lady Lions and Lady Rockets were tied for the top spot as each had just two losses in league play with three matches remaining on the schedule.
With the week progressing, things are starting to sort out in the league standings.

The Lady Rockets were coming off a five-set win Monday over West Union, and FHS defeated Ripley to set up Tuesday's match, but on Tuesday, the Lady Rockets won in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-23.
The win moves Fayetteville to 10-2 in the SHL, while Fairfield falls to 9-3 in the league. Whiteoak also has a league record of 9-3 as they are tied with Fairfield in second place. This week, WHS defeated Ripley and Peebles.
Fayetteville wraps up their league slate on Thursday at Ripley as a win will give them the outright league title. The Lady Lions travel to Manchester Thursday, and a win and a Fayetteville loss on the same day will give the defending champions a share of the league title. WHS will play at North Adams on Thursday to wrap up their league schedule, and a Fayetteville loss and WHS win will give the Lady 'Cats a share of the league championship.
