The Fairfield Lady Lions were defeated Saturday afternoon by the Unioto Lady Shermans 10-1 in a non-conference game played at Fairfield High School.
The game featured two of the top teams in the Southeast District, including the top team in the Southern Hills League and Division IV No. 4 state-ranked Lady Lions, and one of the top teams in the Scioto Valley Conference in Unioto.
The loss drops FHS to 13-2 overall, as they are 10-0 in the SHL. Unioto improves to 17-4 overall. They are 9-3 in the SVC.
Unioto, a No. 1 seed in Division II of the SE District, entered the game with a high- powered offense, and they continued that in the first inning, with the Lady Shermans plating four runs in the top of the first, never looking back.
On the other side of the field, the Fairfield Lady Lions’ bats were mostly silent.
Although the Lady Lions put runners on base in the first five innings, they managed to score only a single run in the second inning.
Lauren Larrick singled down the left field line, with Courtney Huff entering the game as a courtesy runner for Larrick. Huff advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and Kortney Paris moved Huff to third base on a ground out to the right side. Shelby Smithson knocked in Huff with a sacrifice fly to deep right field.
