Final minutes lead to Lion loss to Zane Trace

LEESBURG — In a game where the Fairfield Lions held the lead in each of the four quarters played, it was the final few minutes of regulation which led to their fifth loss of the season, as they were defeated by the Zane Trace Pioneers, 50-44 in a non-conference game at Grandle Gymnasium.
The Lions (3-5) led 15-7 after the first frame, while Zane Trace outscored the Lions, 13-6 in the second.
FHS led 21-20 at halftime.
Each team scored 12 points in the third, and even though the host Lions held the lead during the fourth frame, Zane Trace was able to lead the fourth, 18-11 with Quentin Williams scoring nine of those 11 points in the final frame.
Overall, Williams led the Lions and all scorers with a game-high 24 points. Williams made one 3-pointer in the first quarter. In the second half, Williams scored 15 points.
[[In-content Ad]]Also in double figures for the Lions was Joey Wilson with 10 points, with all 10 points coming in the first half.
Ryan Bates and Gage Montgomery each scored four points. Rounding out the FHS scoring was Brad Clay with two points.
The Lions were 3-of-8 from the free-throw line, and ZT was 7-of-8.
As for the Pioneers, Pierce Mowery led with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. Wes Beam followed with 11 points, and Connor Smith totaled 10 points.
Also for the Pioneers, Tyler Hinty scored six points, and teammates Trey Rittenhouse and Eric Hutton each totaled two points.
The Pioneers totaled five 3-pointers with Mowery making three, two in the third quarter.
