Ferrell is 1st at HC Invitational

LEESBURG — The Hillsboro Lady Indians continued their overall dominance of the girls race in the Highland County Invitational as they won the team title for the third consecutive season, with HHS senior Brittany Ferrell leading all runners for the win.

Ferrell, who was a state track participant in '11, led the way for 27 runners as she placed first overall with a time of 21:11.

In fact, HHS took the top four spots in the event as freshman Reaghan Haines was second at 21:50, junior Alissa Hauke was third at 22:07 and freshman Ceairra Neal was fourth with a time of 22:57. HHS had five of the Top 10 with Madi St. Clair in ninth at 24:08.

Team standings included: HHS in first at 18 points and WHS in second with 41 points. Fairfield, Whiteoak and McClain didn't have enough runners for team points.

[[In-content Ad]]"The girls are happy, and I'm proud of the girls with their results (Tuesday)," HHS coach Tanya Hendrix said. "Our order was a little different than it normally is, but I've been waiting for Brittany to break through, and (Tuesday) she did. When I saw it was her racing in first place, I was so excited for her.

"The girls ran great. We had a couple girls running with injuries, and they were working through it. I can't express how proud I am of this group."

In fifth was Whiteoak senior Clarissa Johnson at 23:21, and in sixth was Lynchburg-Clay senior Laney Lewis with a time of 23:23.

Whiteoak senior Jennah Lomske was seventh (23:42), and WHS senior LeAnna Lomske was eighth at 23:49. In tenth was Fairfield's Kaylee Crum at 24:32.

Fairfield's Kaylee Crum finished in 10th place with a time of 24:32. Hillsboro had runners finishing in the top four, with Brittany Ferrell winning the event with a time of 21:11, followed by Reaghan Haines, second, 21:50; Alissa Hauke, third, 22:07; and Ceairra Neal, fourth, 22:57. Also placing in the top 10 was Madi St. Clair in ninth with a time of 24:08. Hannah Opst came in 11th with a time of 24:57, followed by Lizzie Tamborski, 12th, 25:05; Abby Hagen, 13th, 25:18; Krista Savage, 15th, 26:12; Ashlynn Simon, 18th, 27:56; and Lacee Emery, 19th, 28:23. Also racing for Hillsboro were Shelby Bobbitt, 21st, 29:10; Mikala Waller, 23rd, 30:13; Kristina Stanfield, 24th, 31:16; Janice Smith, 25th, 31:45

Laney Lewis was the top finisher for Lynchburg-Clay, as she came in sixth with a time of 23:23. Ginny Gadzinski came in 20th with a time of 28:46. Emily Roush finished in 22nd at 29:42. Rounding out the scoring for Lynchburg-Clay was Alyssa Greene, 27th, 33:35.

McClain's Sarah Davis placed 14th with a time of 25:45.

Whiteoak's Clarissa Johnson finished in fifth with a time of 23:21. Rounding out the top 10 for Whiteoak were Jennah Lomske in seventh with a time of 23:42 and LeAnna Lomske in eighth with a time of 23:49. Courtney Cummings placed 16th with a time of 26:50, followed by Regan Bohrer in 17th at 27:54 and Olivia Lomske in 26th at 32:57.
