Fairfield Lions ranked 2nd in final AP boys basketball poll

The Fairfield Lions boys basketball team set school history with a perfect regular season, and in the final Associated Press regular season poll, the Lions were ranked second in the state for Division IV.
The final poll released this week had the Lions ranked second by voters of the Associated Press, as Fairfield finished the regular season with a 22-0 record, including being 13-0 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference (Division I).
Fairfield received 70 points in the final vote, jumping up one spot as they were ranked third last week. Gaining the top spot in the final vote was Richmond Heights, also 22-0 overall. Richmond received eight first-place votes and 87 points in the final vote.
Ranked third was Jackson Center (21-1) with 62 points in the vote, followed in fourth by Troy Christian (19-3) with 51 points, and in fifth place is Convoy Crestview (19-3) with 50 points in the vote.
The rest of the Top 10 (6-10) were Russia (19-3), Maria Stein Marion Local (18-4), Lowellville (20-2), Kalida (18-4) and Cincinnati Christian (21-2). No other teams received 12 or more points in the vote.
Fairfield is set to play in a Division IV sectional final game Friday, Feb. 24 at Grandle Gymnasium against Symmes Valley at 7 p.m.
