Fairfield will be hosting a “Foundation Game” on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 4:30 p.m. against Zane Trace High School. Freshman will tip of the action that night at 4:30 p.m., followed by the junior varsity at approximately 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
Radio station WVNU, 97.5 (Greenfield), will be broadcasting the varsity game on the radio. Admission for the event is $5 per person, or $4 if you bring a canned good or food item listed below.
This year’s Foundation Game is a special one in the hearts of the Fairfield community and its basketball team, as all proceeds from the game will go to the Stephen “Peanut” Barcus Memorial Fund in honor of former Fairfield student and basketball player, Stephen Barcus.
In honor of Peanut’s memory, all fans are invited to wear blue to the game in order to show support for a student-athlete who loved playing basketball for the Lion team.
“We’re hoping to see the gym full of people for Saturday night’s game, “ said Fairfield A.D. and basketball coach, Matt Carson. “Peanut was an inspiring player to watch and a great joy to be around. He played the game with a never quit attitude and gave it his all every night. His teammates and I hope to see a large turnout Saturday night to honor his memory and everything he stood for as a player and as a person.”
Anyone unable to make it to the game but still wishing to make a donation to the family can send their donation to NCB Savings Bank in Hillsboro, under Stephen “Peanut” Barcus Memorial Fund c/o NCB Savings Bank.
As part of Service Week, Fairfield and Zane Trace will also be collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items to be donated to the Leesburg Friendly Village Community Center to help out families in the upcoming holiday months. The canned goods will be collected at the game that night and then distributed to the community center following the event.
A list of the items needed includes: toilet paper, bar soap, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, non-perishable canned or boxed food such as fruit, vegetables, macaroni, spaghetti, tuna or soup.[[In-content Ad]]
