LEESBURG — Having just 12 players on their opening day roster, the Fairfield Lady Lions didn't care as they followed the lead of junior Kaitlin Evans and defeated the North Adams Lady Green Devils, 4-1 Wednesday at FHS.

The Southern Hills League win was due in large part to Evans as she had a hat-trick plus one, finishing with four goals in the match.

Evans scored two goals in each half, as the Lady Lions led 2-1 at the half.

"Kaitlin just knows what she has to do," FHS head coach Sam Spargur said. "This was a great team win for the girls, and the girls are coming together, working as a team and are listening."

North Adams was first to score with 33:35 left on the first-half clock, but the lead didn't last too long as Evans tied the score at 1-1 with 21:25 remaining in the opening half, kicking the ball from around five yards out.

Evans put the Lady Lions ahead 2-1 less than a minute later with her second goal.

In the second half, Evans made it a two-goal advantage with 38:57 left in the match as the junior took the ball downfield and kicked it from 15 yards away, landing the ball to the left corner of the goal.

The final goal by Evans, who returned to action after being hit in the face with the soccer ball at the 28:55 mark, came via a 10-yard kick with 17:17 left in the match, with the assist by Courtney Huff.

The final FHS goal was scored at the 14:12 mark on the clock with Macie Pauley sending the ball to the back of the net.

"This win makes the girls want to work harder because now they know what they have to do to achieve success the rest of the season," Spargur said.

FHS will face Eastern Brown on Friday at FHS starting at 4:30 p.m.
