Area teams to host Foundation Games

By
The Highland County Press-
Two area high schools will participate in upcoming Foundation Games to benefit local charities, asking fans to bring canned food items or monetary donations in honor of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Foundation’s community service initiative, “OHSAA Foundation Service Week.”

Foundation Service Week is highlighted by "Foundation Games," where participating schools are permitted to use one of the five allotted basketball scrimmages to play a live game under all normal game conditions, although the game does not count on a team’s record.

Fairfield will be hosting a Foundation Game on Monday, Nov. 29 against Ponitz-Technology of Dayton. There will be three games that night, with the freshmen tipping off at 5 p.m., followed by J.V. at 6:15 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m. Admission for all spectators will be $5 per individual, or $4 if an individual brings a canned good to donate to the canned food drive. No passes will be honored at this event.

As part of Service Week, all participating schools have identified a community service project meaningful for their school and community. Fairfield has elected to do a canned food drive as their community service project. Team members and coaches are organizing canned food drives among their classmates and families for the upcoming game on Monday, Nov. 29. The canned foods will be donated to local church food pantries and the Highland County Homeless Shelter. Revenue from the game will be donated to the Highland County Homeless Shelter. WVNU 97.5 of Greenfield will be broadcasting the event via radio.

In addition, the Hillsboro High School boys basketball team will participate in a Foundation Game. Admission is a canned food item (fans may bring as many as desired) or a monetary donation. All proceeds will go to local charity Area 937 Ministries, located at old Webster Bldg. Area 937 Ministries is an outreach program organized by the Hillsboro Church of Christ and dedicated to aiding Highland County families in need of food and other daily necessities, according to the charity’s web site at www.area937.com.

Proceeds from Foundation Events go directly to the selected community service project, less a $250 contribution per school to the OHSAA Foundation, which will be returned to schools in the form of scholarships and leadership conferences for student-athletes in all sports. The OHSAA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and was created over 10 years ago to provide resources for enhancing educational opportunities and services for Ohio’s student-athletes.[[In-content Ad]]
