Southern State Community College is excited to announce a 5.7-percent increase in student enrollment for the 2024 fall semester. Gains of 10.5 percent in College Credit Plus (CCP) enrollment and 0.4-percent increase in non-CCP hours suggest that the College continues to rely heavily on CCP enrollment while holding non-CCP enrollment steady.

The increase in enrollment emphasizes the college’s commitment to providing affordable, accessible, high-quality education to meet the evolving needs of the students and communities it serves.

"What a great start to a new school year,” says Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Erika Goodwin. “This increase in enrollment is a testament to our dedicated faculty and staff, our academic offerings, and our ongoing efforts to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all students."

Many of the College’s technical programs have grown since last fall.  Enrollment gains in Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education and Licensed Practical Nursing, among others, indicate that more students are seeking occupational training for some of the region’s most in-demand occupations.

Several factors have contributed to this impressive growth. The College has introduced a variety of new courses, enhanced support services, and expanded financial aid options to help reduce barriers to higher education. Additionally, community outreach and recruitment efforts have been ramped up to better connect with prospective students.

Southern State offers a range of programs designed to prepare students for the workforce, transfer to four-year institutions or pursue personal enrichment.

"We are dedicated to helping our students achieve their academic and career goals," said Goodwin. "At Southern State, we will continue to remain focused on providing an exceptional educational experience and supporting our students every step of the way."

Registration for next semester begins Oct. 29.
