Ross, Shelton awarded Highland County Republican Women’s Club scholarships

The Highland County Republican Women’s Club is pleased to announce the two winners of our Ayres/Van Frank Memorial Scholarship, awarding $1,000 to each graduate. The 2026 recipients are Maguire Ross of McClain High School, Greenfield and Sydney Shelton of Whiteoak High School, Mowrystown.

Ross is very motivated and will pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Ohio Northern University. She has a very strong academic background and a commitment to serving others. Her school and community activities include officer positions in National Honor Society, Student Council, golf team, show choir, FFA Chapter, varsity cheer, Drama Club, New Directions Youth Leadership and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She contributed to the Big E Agricultural Issues Winning Team, National and Ohio FFA State Finalist for Science Fair projects.

Ross is recognized as a Governor’s Merit Scholar. She has completed many CCP classes and graduates with honors from McClain High School with a 4.4 weighted GPA. 

Shelton is very dedicated and will pursue an Agriculture Education and Animal Science degree at Wilmington College. She seeks to educate youth about agriculture as an ag teacher in the classroom and as an FFA adviser. Shelton’s school and community activities include President of the Highland County Junior Fair Board, Highland County Beef Queen, All About Beef 4-H Club, National Honor Society and Student Council.  She earned her State FFA Degree at the Ohio FFA Convention and placed fourth at the State in Ohio FFA Beef Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award.

Shelton has been a class officer all four years of high school, participates in cheer and volleyball and leads Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). She has completed many CCP classes and graduates as salutatorian with a 3.9 unweighted GPA.   

This year, we received 27 applications, and we completed multiple committee, assessments and interview sessions. We thank all the applicants and were very impressed with all accomplishments, and wish much success to each in their future endeavors after graduation.
