Three Miami Trace graduates were among the 11 young Ohioans who were recently named recipients of $1,000 college scholarships from the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation. The Foundation, supported by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, annually recognizes Ohio students for their academic effort, engagement in their communities and career interests that link agriculture to community service, education or scientific research.
Local scholarship winners for 2012 are Amy Jo Frost of Bloomingburg, Sarah Peterson of Sabina and Aaron Sollars of Washington Court House.
Frost was honored by The Women’s Leadership in Agriculture Scholarship Program, which was established by the Charlotte R. Schmidlapp Fund, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee. The Fund is one of the oldest in the nation and supports academic institutions, social service and charitable organizations providing opportunities “to ennoble, to uplift and to strengthen the lives of young women.” Frost is a graduate of Miami Trace High School and is studying agricultural and extension education at Ohio State.
Peterson and Sollars are winners of the Darwin Bryan Scholarship. The program commemorates Darwin R. Bryan, whose enthusiastic leadership during his 37 years of service to the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation has been an inspiration to rural youth throughout Ohio. Peterson, a graduate of Miami Trace High School, plans to major in agricultural business and economics at Ohio State. Sollars is also a Miami Trace graduate and is an agricultural engineering student at Ohio State University.
In addition to its scholarship programs, The Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation offers Agriculture Action and Awareness Grants to small, community-based service groups throughout Ohio.
Families and individuals wishing to establish their own life gifts to enhance scholarships and service programs have the opportunity to become involved in the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Bequest Society. More information on these and other programs can be found at www.ofbfoundation.org.[[In-content Ad]]
