McClain High School to present 'Damn Yankees' musical

By
Loretta Flora-
Professional baseball meets Broadway in the timeless classic "Damn Yankees." McClain High School's theatre and music department will present this entertaining musical on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24.

Middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd, played by senior Sam Henry, is an avid fan of the Washington Senators baseball team. He knows that with just one long-ball hitter, his favorite team would have a chance to win the pennant. In response to his wishes, the Devil (the charming but devious Mr. Applegate), played by junior Wyatt Ferrell, appears on the scene. He convinces Joe to sell his soul for a chance to lead his favorite teem to victory in the pennant race giants the New York Yankees. Joe leaves his wife, Meg (played by senior Elizabeth Prayner) and joins the team.

As young baseball sensation Joe Hardy, he transforms the hapless Washington Senators into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life (and wife) he left behind. With the help of a handy escape clause and a guilt-ridden temptress named Lola, played by senior Gretchen Schulz, Joe outsmarts Applegate, returns to his former self and shepherds the Senators to the world Series.

Light, fast-paced and devilishly clever, "Damn Yankees" is a home-run hit whose all-American subject matter and irreverent sense of humor have brought many a sports fan into the theatre.

Tickets for the show are $5 and may be purchased by calling (937) 981-7731. Reserved seating is available. Tickets will also be available at the door. The show will be presented at 7:30 in the McClain auditorium. Please come and support the 40 young actors and actresses who make this show a winner.[[In-content Ad]]
