The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter’s Livestock Judging team placed seventh in the state, this qualified them to compete at the World Beef Expo in Milwaukee, Wis., in September.
Members of the team were Brad Keltner, Rachel Clonch, Tonya Fender, and Lisa Rhonemus. Keltner and Clonch were unable to attend the Expo in September due to college so James Crosley and Colt Penwell from Miami Trace FFA joined the Lynchburg-Clay team to make an Ohio FFA team. The team placed first as a team in Livestock Judging, along with Livestock Judging the team also participated in Showmanship, Herdsmanship, and Photo Journalism.
In Photo Journalism Tonya placed second, James got seventh and Colt got eighth; while in Individual Livestock judging, Tonya placed eighth and Colt was sixth. Congratulations to them on their hard work.
Along with working hard on their judging skills they able to attend a Cincinnati Reds game against the Brewers. Although the Reds lost, the Judging team still had a blast watching the pros in action from a section of seating just behind first base. The team also discovered the Pettit National Ice Center that is on the Wisconsin State Fair grounds.
This is the U.S. Olympic Training Site where all of the U.S. speed skaters from the last four games have trained. During the World Beef Expo, students were able to watch the crowing of the Champion Bull and Champion Heifer classes which had 12 different breeds represented. This was truly a lifetime experience for all the members that attended.
