The Junior State of America's mission is to teach high school students about politics and government, help them develop and polish leadership skills, encourage critical thinking, and transmit the knowledge necessary for active, informed citizenship.
The Lynchburg-Clay JSA Chapter attended the Fall Regional 2011 at the Miami University in Oxford.
Because democracy is not a spectator sport four chapter members and two guests from Hillsboro participated in various forms of debate. Debates are the most common JSA convention and chapter activity. Although debates follow a standardized format, the JSA style of debates is relatively relaxed and informal. JSA student members select the topics for debate.
Lynchburg-Clay JSA President Richard Tarr and Richard Oaks were chosen as best speakers and awarded gavels.
Today, JSA has spread to 500 chapters and recognized as the largest student-run organization in the country.[[In-content Ad]]
