Johnson congratulates new Shawnee State president

State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) congratulates Dr. Eric Andrew Braun on his inauguration as the new Shawnee State University President. 

Dr. Johnson provided remarks at the inauguration ceremony Friday.

"Shawnee State University is a vital part of our Scioto County community, playing a major role in our culture and economy. I am greatly encouraged by President Braun's bold vision for SSU's future," Johnson said. "I look forward to seeing students learning right here in Portsmouth continue to play a key role in the improvement of our local quality of life, and in making the great state of Ohio a better place to live, worship, work and raise a family."

Dr. Braun will serve as Shawnee State University's eighth president. He was appointed as the University's Interim President in July of 2023. 

President Braun previously served as the institution's Vice President for Advancement & Enrollment Management. He began his time at Shawnee State in 2009 as the Executive Director for Development and President of the SSU Development Foundation.

President Braun is a seventh-generation Scioto Countian. He lives in Portsmouth with his wife and is the proud father of three children.
