Hillsboro High School’s theatre department will be performing Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on April 15, 16 and 17. The show is directed by Bronwyn Jones and Jarrod Weiss.
The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph (played by Jerry Bailey), his father’s favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. He is purchased by Poitphar (Quinn Alexander Pickering-Polstra) where thwarting advances from Potiphar’s wife lands him in jail.
When news of Joseph’s gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh (Caleb Tong), Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command.
Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum
pop and rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.
“These kids have worked extremely hard in order to produce a spectacular and entertaining show,” said Jones and Weiss. “Everyone who comes to see this show is going to see what talented students we have in Hillsboro. Given the circumstances, they have achieved an incredible feat. We are very proud of these kids.”
Generally, musical productions spent at least 12 weeks practicing and rehearsing. Because of unforeseen circumstances, students were given less than seven weeks to produce one of the more difficult shows attempted in high school.
The show is narrated by Byrnna Boone, Kelly Devine, Meredith Keister, and McCaylee Priest. The cast and crew includes Emily Archibald, Rachel Archibald, Guy Bailey, Logan Brightman, Kellie Burwinkle, Savannah Cameron, James Carter, Micaela Countryman, Jamie Davis, Joey Elsass, Jillian Eltzroth, Alan Fair, Callie Fryman, Marcy Grooms, Tori Hampton, Marissa Hollen, Tori Murray, Jordan Opst, James Otworth, Aaron Peyton, Cody Pollard, Nick Reed, Madi Reno, Anthony Schaible, Caitlin Schafer Drew Stout, Kelsey Whaley, Michael White, Alex Wilson, Brandi Wooton, and Kayla Young.
Tickets can be purchased at the school or at the door. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for students. Performances will take place on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, April 17 at 3 p.m.
All performances will take place in the HHS cafetorium.[[In-content Ad]]
