Greenfield Elementary School readies for a new year
By Bob Schumm
Greenfield Elementary Principal
Welcome to the wonderful world of Greenfield Elementary, the 2010-11 edition.
We are excited and happy in anticipation of another successful year here at the "World's Greatest School!"
As is our tradition, the staff members have been working hard over the past few weeks preparing for the arrival of our students on the first day of school. Greenfield Elementary will welcome all students in grades 1-4 on Thursday, Aug. 19 for a full day of classes. A free breakfast will be provided in the cafetorium from 8:45-9 a.m. for any student who wishes to participate. Students wishing to eat breakfast need to arrive at school and go promptly to the McClain Cafetorium in order to finish by 9 a.m. Students walking to school or being dropped off are expected to arrive to school between 8:50 a.m. and 9 a.m. unless participating in our breakfast program.
Bus students will arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 8:55 a.m. All students who arrive before 8:50 a.m. must report to the McClain Cafetorium. No students shall be allowed on either playground before school, as no
supervision will be provided.
Kindergarten Breakthrough and testing week will be held August 19-26 with the first full day on Friday, Aug. 27. Parents of kindergartners should have already received information in the mail about our special schedule for the
first week. If you haven't received this letter, please call the school as soon as possible.
Our cafeteria will again offer breakfast and a hot lunch program. Breakfast will again be offered to all students for free this fall. Lunches are $1.75 for students K-4. We also offer a free or reduced lunch program for those who qualify.
Dismissal procedures are as follows: All preschool through grade 2 children will be dismissed from the front doors, while grades 3 and 4 will dismiss through the north playground doors.  Students will be dismissed as follows: preschool 3:30 p.m.; kindergarten, 3:35 p.m.; grades 1-2, 3:40 p.m.; and grades 3-4, 3:45 p.m. Students are to leave the school grounds
immediately upon dismissal.  Students are not permitted to gather on either playground unless accompanied by a parent. There are no teachers on playground duty before or after school. Bus students will report to their assigned room and will board the busses when they arrive a short time after 4 p.m.
Special care needs to be taken when students are dismissed from school. The area around the school becomes very congested with traffic. Children do not always remember the safety rules. Please drive and walk cautiously to keep our children safe.
If your child needs to be absent from school for any reason, please contact the school office at your earliest possible convenience.
