For the second time, Columbus’s COSI will display the original artwork of a Greenfield Elementary student in an upcoming exhibit.

The exhibit is called STEAM Wars: Where Art & Space Collide and it opens on May 10. (See https://cosi.org/art-contest-steam-wars.)

During that exhibit, which runs through September, Greenfield second grader Harper Taylor’s “Out of This World” will be displayed.

According to information on the work provided by the young artist, her piece is about an alien on an adventure through the cosmos to find the one place he has been searching for for a very long time, COSI. His mission? To find that art and space can collide.

Taylor is not the first GES student to have an entry displayed at COSI. Third grader Hazel Vesey's work (for the Jurassic Art Exhibit)  hung there from November of 2024 until March of this year, and now Taylor will represent the school from May until September, art teacher William Roller said. Roller also had a piece displayed in the Jurassic show.

“It's an incredible feat to have our GES Tigers to continue to find success against so much wonderful competition and skilled judges,” Roller said. “It really shows our art program is strong, and I will work to keep it strong and growing.”

Roller said he has been encouraging students to get involved, and part of that was keeping entry forms on his desk for this art contest. He has always encouraged his students to be involved in things like this, and he said he had the most participation so far with this contest. There were a total of eight entries from GES, he said, and 160 total entries for the contest.

“It takes courage, creativity and effort to compete in these types of events,” Roller said. “I am beyond proud of all of my students who competed, and I am ecstatic for Harper. She will love this experience and I hope it makes her drive to create even stronger.”
