Fairfield forms Vote Yes Committee

Fairfield community members have organized a "Vote Yes" committee on Jan. 25 to pass a renewal of the Fairfield School's Permanent Improvement Levy.
Superintendent Bill Garrett explained that the 4.5 mill-levy has generated approximately $330,000 a year.
Using "Permanent Improvement" money to make capital improvements, such as school buses, has made it possible for the general fund to concentrate its efforts on educating the students.
Guided by volunteer leaders Cathy Arnold (937-313-0548), Doug Baker (5130509-3879), and Misty Lawson (937-780-3075), the group encouraged additional volunteers to express their interests in any of the activities.
They set a date of Feb. 10 for a fund-raising spaghetti dinner to be held at the school prior to the boys' basketball game.
Also, contributions can be made to the "Vote Yes" committee. There are accounts at the Southern Hills Community Bank in Leesburg and at the board office. Other jobs involve sign-painting, canvassing and informing friends about the community need for the school-funding levy.
According to an independent survey from Ohio Education Matters, Fairfield was one of 135 Ohio school districts deemed "most efficient." Stated Andrew Benson, executive director of OEM, who described Fairfield as "best in class," "Other districts should look to Fairfield to learn how it is doing more with less."

At the meeting, Fairfield senior Ashley Jett expressed her thoughts on the levy's necessity.
"Everyone here gives their all – with computers, with lectures, with attitudes," she said. "Teachers cheer me on. Now I enjoy being involved in creative writing and drama, experiences which spur me on to try more. It is a small school and we need the technology that gives us a better edge. I am very thankful and I want to leave the same for those who come after me."[[In-content Ad]]
