Each year, DAR sponsors the Good Citizen Awards. Each school chooses a senior to participate.

Students are chosen on the many characteristics of a good citizen – truthfulness, punctuality, cooperation and many others. They also write a timed essay on a topic given to them.

The winning entry proceeds to the state and national contest. They receive a pin, certificate and a scholarship.

This year’s top winner is Carter Boyd of Hillsboro HS. Other school winners are:  Kendal Welling, Fairfield; Ava Marie Doughman, Lynchburg-Clay; and Brooklyn Baldwin, McClain.

Publisher's note: A free press is critical to having well-informed voters and citizens. If you would like to contribute to this service, it would be greatly appreciated. Donations may be made to: The Highland County Press, P.O. Box 849, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
