The Cassner Foundation has announced the 2010 scholarship recipients.
Ethan Hawkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Hawkins of Hillsboro, graduated from Whiteoak High School. He plans to attend Morehead State University and major in pre-dentistry.
Sadie Jones, daughter of Ms. Ruth Jones of Leesburg, graduated from
Fairfield Local High School. She plans to attend Otterbein College and major in biochemistry.
Elizabeth Keister, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Keister of Hillsboro, graduated from Hillsboro High School. She plans to attend Miami University and major in environmental engineering. Brad Keltner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Kelter of Martinsville, graduated from Lynchburg-Clay High School. He plans to attend University of Kentucky and major in agriculture biotechnology.
Matt Shonwiler, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Shonkwiler of Greenfield, graduated from McClain High School. He plans to attend Kent State University-Stark and major in music technology.
Sarah Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Smith of Hillsboro, graduated from Whiteoak High School. She plans to attend Shawnee State University and major in dental hygiene.
The Cassner Foundation Scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Alvin B. Cassner. Six $3,500 a year scholarships are awarded annually to Highland County High School seniors. Scholarships are renewable for a four year period upon evidence that a 2.0 grade point average is maintained. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, personal qualifications and stated goals and objectives. The final applicants are interviewed by a three person screening committee before the committee awards the scholarships. Students can receive information about the scholarship from their school counselor.
