Bright Elementary pays tribute to all veterans

On November 11, Bright Elementary School held its annual Veterans Day program. The program began with the Cub Scouts presenting the colors. Kindergarten led the assembly in the reciting of The Pledge of Allegiance. The fifth and sixth grade Honor Choir led us in "The Star-Spangled Banner" and presented some other musical numbers. Each grade level presented a tribute to the veterans. First grade sang "My Country, Tis of Thee." Second grade gave a rousing rendition of "You're a Grand Old Flag." Fourth graders recited "A Soldier's Christmas Poem." Third graders presented a special song for the veterans titled "We Thank You." Kayla Risner, Chad Jones, and Derrick Smith presented poems that they had composed from the fifth grade classes. Sixth grade gave a history of Veterans Day. Mr. Roades concluded the program by singing "God Bless the U.S.A." The students were all very impressed. The Cub Scouts retired the colors as the finale. Veterans were served refreshments provided by our P.T.L. Prior to the program, students bought "bricks" to honor veterans that they know. Students were asked to donate 25 cents per brick with the proceeds going to the activity fund at the Veteran's Home in Georgetown. We raised over $55 for our veterans. The money we raised will be used to buy prizes for contests at the home or to help offset some of the cost of special programs they might have. We appreciate everyone who participated in this project. Our "Honor Wall" will be on display in the cafeteria through the end of November if you would like to see it. We would like to thank everyone who attended our Veterans Day program. We would especially like to thank our veterans (past and present) for all they have sacrificed for our country. We really do appreciate you! [[In-content Ad]]
