On September 6, two Hillsboro Great Oaks FFA members participated in the Highland County Jr. Fair Royalty contest which was held in the Multipurpose Building. Elizabeth Ogden and Aubriann Anderson, along with two other girls, ran for Highland County Jr. Fair Queen, and one boy ran for Highland County Jr. Fair King.

Elizabeth was the first runner-up and attendant and Aubriann got second runner-up and attendant. The third runner-up and attendant was Brystal McClain, and the 2026 Highland County Jr. Fair Queen was Kaylee Hurless-Miller. Austin Burnum became the 2026 Highland County Jr. Fair King.

There are four parts to the application process. The first is the physical paper application contestants have to fill out and turn in to the Royalty Superintendents. The second part is an interview with the judges. The third part is a five minute speech on what the fair theme of that year means to you. This year the fair theme was “Highland County Fair in Full Bloom.”

The fourth and final part of the competition is answering two fishbowl questions. Congratulations to all contestants and winners.
