Trump says $2,000 tariff rebate checks won't come before Christmas

Americans won't get a $2,000 rebate check from the federal government before Christmas.

President Donald Trump said Friday that the proposed checks will not be distributed before the end of the year. Trump made the comments aboard Air Force One on his way to Mar-a-Lago, the president's club in Palm Beach. It's his 14th trip to Palm Beach this year.

Trump has proposed sending $2,000 checks to most Americans, excluding high earners. Earlier this week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said no decision had been made on income limits. On the same day, the White House said it was "exploring all of its options" for sending tariff rebate checks even as the Supreme Court considers a legal challenge to the president's tariffs.

Congress would need to authorize rebate checks, similar to those distributed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump has addressed the issue of rebate checks multiple times this week.

"All money left over from the $2,000 payments made to low and middle income USA Citizens, from the massive Tariff Income pouring into our Country from foreign countries, which will be substantial, will be used to SUBSTANTIALLY PAY DOWN NATIONAL DEBT," Trump wrote in a social media post earlier this week.

While Trump provided no details, early estimates suggest that the checks would cost more than the tariffs generate.

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget reported that if the payments were like the COVID-19 stimulus, the $2,000 dividend would cost about $600 billion – about twice what tariffs are expected to generate.

A Congressional Budget Office report from August estimated tariffs could bring in $4 trillion over the next decade. That CBO report came with caveats and noted that tariffs will raise consumer prices and reduce the purchasing power of U.S. families.

...decisions. Should I put it in the bank with the $10,000 my wife and I got from the DOGE payout or buy more Trump merch? I hear he is selling broken bricks from the teardown of the East Wing. "Own a piece of REAL American history!"

I bet you have never been in the east wing of the White House. And you do not know anyone personally that has been there either. But you glom on to the progressive talking points and weep big crocodile tears because you were commanded to by cnn, the ap, what's left of the npr/pbs state propaganda scheme, ms-nbc, ms-now, "Ms. Pres." Hillary and kamallaaa, or whatever. Because President Trump is in Office and making executive decisions that ruffle the delicate vent feathers of the wimpy left. Get over it....

...like picking out curtains and flatware.

"I bet you have never been in the east wing of the White House. And you do not know anyone personally that has been there either."

You would lose that bet Matt.

Kind of a mute point now. Thanks to the hubris, fragile ego and grifting of one feeble old man, the closest our children and grandchildren will ever come to that piece of American history is standing in the middle of a gilded pole barn decorated like a New Orleans bordello.

"...you glom on to the progressive talking points and weep big crocodile tears because you were commanded to by cnn, the ap, what's left of the npr/pbs state propaganda scheme, ms-nbc, ms-now, "Ms. Pres." Hillary and kamallaaa, or whatever. Because President Trump is in Office and making executive decisions that ruffle the delicate vent feathers of the wimpy left."

One question. If the wimpy left has delicate vent feathers, what are yours? Leathery? Manly? TOUGH! Bigley? Locked & Loaded? Or do you even have vent feathers? For that matter, what the heck ARE vent feathers? OK, that's three questions, but even so...

Any Democrat or progressive that say President Trump is disrespectful to the White House should search the archives of Monica Lewinsky in the Oval office and that trans fiasco Biden held on Easter... A ball room will be a nice addition to the White House. As my fellow Marine, and current VP, J.D. Vance says: these people are stage-4 TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome. One would think the whiny left would realize they're in the throes of a behavioral and emotional episode. They're supposed to be the empathic and smart ones... The jury is out on that one. I have a question to any Democrat that will genuinely listen and think logically: Why are the Armed Forces recruiting and retention numbers full under Trump, but the recruiting numbers were suffering bigly under Biden and word salad Kamala? And that former First Lady Michelle, still complains on every microphone she can garner, that she had it "rough" for the 8 years at the White House. OOO! I feel your distress... That must have been awful. Two to three media outlets criticized your comings and goings, while the other 300 media realms fawned over you and your husband... Just go away to Martha's Vineyard, Hawaii, or wherever your other 2 mansions are...

...and Kamala and Michelle , oh my!

Someone's vent feathers seem to be all in a kerfuffle. It'll be OK Matt, President AOC isn't coming for your guns. Unless you aren't a member of a Well Regulated (Federal) Militia. The first part of the 2A, ya know.

Wrong again. You're not up to the task on the Bill of Rights: ("well regulated") is in lower case. And the word "regulated" does not mean what you think means. There is no "(Federal)" in the 2A either. Just quit while you're not ahead. And you're not aware what a vent is on a bird.

In the 1790's, "well regulated" means having a chain of command, practice close order drill, and use a code of conduct. It would also be helpful and successful for a militia to have uniforms, use similar calibers for their arms, and have their infantry work in concert with the artillery and calvary.

"Wrong again. You're not up to the task on the Bill of Rights: ("well regulated") is in lower case."

Says the guy who spells the name of our previous Vice President with 5 A's and 2 L's (and no capitalization) , can't figure out the capitalization of the acronyms for CNN, the AP, NBC, PBS etc and thinks random all caps words by a guy who can't pronounce Acetaminophen but thinks it causes autism should get a Nobel prize.

"And the word "regulated" does not mean what you think means." Okey Dokey Mrs. Throng, (my third grade teacher) I'll rush right over to the dictionary. Or do you think you are Inigo Montoya?

"There is no "(Federal)" in the 2A either." Thank you so much for that insightful analysis. Could you also point me to "but people who have lived here their entire lives don't get to be citizens anymore cause I'm The President Now" in the 14A?

But let's talk about vent feathers. It is really embarrassing for me not to have gotten the reference.

I have raised chickens, ducks and Guineas.

I spent 5 summers "helping out" at my Uncle Lawrence's chicken farm. Grunt labor in exchange for room and board - sleep on the porch, scrambled eggs and oatmeal for breakfast, chicken or egg salad sandwiches for lunch and for supper as many fried chicken backs, wingtips and necks I could eat.

Ya woulda thunk I'd have known, but it flew right over my head.

Kudos to you Matt. I bow to your obviously superior knowledge of poultry posteriors. And now I understand why they had such a weird name for Marine berthing aboard ship.

Are we done with this? Or do you want to talk about my mother's combat boots (yes, she wore them - building planes at the Willow Run bomber plant in Michigan), Reagan's tan suits, Melanias bare arms or how many trillions of dollars the Chinese have paid to American farmers?

I misspelled Kamala and did not capitalize the news organizations on purpose as a slight to them. I was being disrespectful to them. But I think that's far better than calling President Trump a fascist, rapist, hitler, nazi, etc... Or calling his voters and support the same things and calling them deplorable and garbage too.
