Death penalty to be sought for Charlie Kirk assassination
The Center Square
Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray announced Tuesday he will seek the death penalty for suspect Tyler James Robinson for the assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk.
Gray told reporters he was filing a total of seven counts against Robinson, including aggravated murder, felony of discharge of firearm causing serious bodily injury and counts of obstruction of justice and witness tampering.
"The murder of Charlie Kirk is an American tragedy," Gray said.
A memorial service for assassinated Charlie Kirk will take place Sept. 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., Turning Point USA announced.
In related news Monday, FBI Director Kash Patel announced DNA evidence related to Kirk’s assassination. And U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Arizona, is calling for unity against political violence.
The service at the Glendale stadium is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. local time at the stadium, 1 Cardinals Drive. Doors will open at 8 a.m., according to Turning Point USA’s website, fightforcharlie.com.
The venue can seat around 70,000 people. President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are expected to attend, according to media reports.
Kirk, a devoted ally of Trump, was shot and killed during an event Wednesday that 3,000 people attended at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. On Friday, authorities announced Tyler Robinson, 22, was in custody. On Monday morning, Patel said on Fox News that DNA found on a towel wrapped around a rifle, which authorities say was used in the assassination, as well as DNA from a screwdriver found at the rooftop where the shot was fired, matched Robinson’s DNA.
Kirk was a Scottsdale, Ariz., resident, and Turning Point USA, which he founded, is headquartered in Phoenix.
Comment
Not enough
The assassin should also be charged federally with a hate crime. His actions are the very definition of such.
Evil
Matthew, it is Evil when anyone is killed in this way, whether Democrat or Republican. Did you have such comments against the Right when the Minnesota Lawmakers were killed? I think not.and that is the problem. Your leader is spewing hatred every day against people - is that okay? I would think not but it must be okay with you as your comments would infer that only anyone on the left is bad. Both sides have their issues with rhetoric out of hand. The divisiveness just gets much worse each day and if we can't fix that we will have bigger problems.
Not even close to the same
No one knew who the Minnesota lawmakers were. President Trump certainly never even mentioned their names. The killer in Minnesota was hired by Dem. Gov. Walz at one time. HIs stability is questionable and him dressing up as an officer with a mask is strange. The Minnesota guy can be more closely related to that Florida nut job that tried to kill Pres. Trump on the golf course. Nice try Randall. Now can you explain the background and motives behind the Butler, PA incident? Is Trump to blame for that one too? The left-winged media, politicians, Hollywood, entertainers, and dark media should have a come to Jesus meeting.
I just saw that Jimmy Kimmel just got pulled off the air for his recent comments....
Any thoughts Randall?
Randall can't reasonably explain the left winged violence against Kirk, Trump twice, Justice Kavanagh etc al, Sen. Ron Paul, and the baseball practice attack on Rep. Steve Calise and other Republicans.
I can. The left wing is full of hatred, they're deranged, and some supporters are extremely violent. The real news is my proof.
I'd take martyr Charlie Kirk than criminal George Floyd as my inspiration any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
thoughts
Matthew, sorry to keep you waiting so long but I do have a life - unlike some that can't wait to see their own comments printed. Guess what, I didn't know who Charlie Kirk was either but I sympathize with his family on what happened. I don't know Left wing extremists either. I never tried to explain the left wing violence against Kirk so I really don't know what you are talking about there. In case you didn't understand I was saying both sides have plenty of issues but unfortunately you can't see that with your blinders on. I am sure that Charlie Kirk was a better person than George Floyd but no excuse for pinning him down until he died.
And you might want to read about this (you probably don't actually):
DOJ Quietly Deletes Study After Charlie Kirk's Death That Says Right-Wing Extremists Engage in 'Far More' Political Violence
Not waiting
I wasn't waiting. I've been on vacation this week. Even though I miss a lot things with these blinders on, I can still enjoy some time off work. But at least I knew who Charlie Kirk was. A millions of young people are inspired and listen to Charlie and his message.

Evil?
I have a question Matt. Consider this:
In 2018, Cesar Altieri Sayoc (R) sent pipe bombs to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden,Maxine Waters and 5 other Democrats.
In 2020, 13 men attempted to kidnap Michigan’s Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
July 2020 Roy Den Hollander murdered human rights lawyer Marc Angelucci. He then tried
to kill district judge Esther Salas but murdered her son and seriously wounded her husband instead.
February 2022 Quintez Brown attempted to kill the Democratic Mayor of Louisville.
October 2022 David DePape attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer with the intention of torturing Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
December 2022, Solomon Peña (R) paid gunmen to attack the houses of Democrat state lawmakers in New Mexico.
April 2025, Cody Balmer attempted to kill Pennsylvania’s Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro in an arson attack.
The Democrat Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives Melissa Hortman, her husband and her golden retriever Gilbet were killed by Vance Boelter (R) in June 2025.
He also tried to murder Minnesota Senator John Hoffman and his wife but only wounded them.
That's at least 25 Democrats targeted for murder. Why is the radical left trying, sometimes successfully, to kill so many progressive, liberal Democrats?
They are.
The arson on Gov. Shapiro residence was done by a free-Gaza anti Semite. The Minnesota guy claimed Dem. Gov. Walz told him do it. The Pelosi thing was in San Francisco, the guy was crazy, with no political reason involved. The rest of the random stuff are incidents I never heard of.
Evil
This is what happens when progressives (maybe most liberal and Democrats too) are soft on sin and crime. And when progressive leaders verbally amp up the meaness, vulgarity, and disrespect a handful of their supporters and followers will act out in violent ways. A young man was killed because of his Christain faith and beliefs and his political stance.
