After one of their own was recently diagnosed with leukemia, Hillsboro’s Boy Scout Troop 6171 wanted to find a way to help him and his family.

The recently diagnosed Boy Scout and his family would normally be preparing for the upcoming cold winter by cutting firewood now, but instead are staying with their son at the hospital while he receives treatment.

On Sunday, July 27 in 94-degree heat, current Scout members and advisers, along with past Scouts, family and friends, worked together splitting and cutting enough firewood to fill two large trailers and a truckbed full of wood for the Scout and his family.

What a beautiful thing. I commend the boys, their families and their leaders.
