James B. 'Derby' Butler | The Highland County Press

James B. “Derby” Butler, 73, of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024 at Ohio’s Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties in Middletown.

He was born Dec. 10, 1950 in Greenfield, the son of Elgan P. and Goldie B. (Wilson) Butler.

He was a 1970 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School. He retired from Greenfield Research in 2024 after 52 years of employment.

He is survived by one son, James Matthew (Jessica) Butler of Hillsboro; and two granddaughters, Miranda Rose Butler and McKenzie Lea Butler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marsha Kay Butler, on April 26, 2016; one infant brother, Elgan Butler Jr.; and both parents.

Funeral service will be Friday, Aug. 16 at noon at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m.-noon at the funeral home.
