Peter David Quance

Peter David Quance, 68, of Groveport, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024 at home.  
 
He was born March 7, 1955 in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, the son of Richard Albert and Elizabeth Cameron (Smith) Quance.
 
Peter obtained his BA in history from Duke University in 1977 and his Juris Doctor of Law from University of Toronto in 1980. He practiced law at Smith & Quance Law Office until its closing in 2020. During his time at Duke, he was a member of the Duke Cross Country team. Peter went on to become a world-class long-distance runner, competing in marathons around the world, including Fukuoka in Japan and the world Championships in Helsinki in the early 1980s. In October 1982, he won the Toronto Marathon — the biggest Canadian race of its kind.  
 
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed running, spending time on his farm, traveling and being with his family. 
 
He is survived by his wife, Julianne McCray, whom he married on April 23, 1994; two daughters, Caitlin (Kristoffer) Donhowe of Mountain View, Calif. and Katherine “KC” (Craig) Marshall of Canal Winchester; five grandchildren, Matti and Risa Donhowe and Crosby, Beck and Hayes Marshall; three brothers, Daniel Quance of Montreal, Quebec, Robert (Rose Deng) Quance of Toronto, Ontario and John (Joanne Ball) Quance of Montreal, Quebec; two nephews, Ryan (Marianne Simoneau) Quance and Simon (Sarah Dort) Quance; and one niece, Julie (Nicolas Bellangeon) Quance.  
 
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Jo (Smith) Quance, on Aug. 18, 1992; and both parents.
 
Memorial service will be Friday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield with Pastor Mike Anderson officiating.
 
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 25 from 4-7 p.m. at the church.
 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield Historical Society or the First Presbyterian Church, Greenfield, Ohio.  
 
The Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield is serving the family.

Our office misses Pete stopping in. He was always a joy to work and talk with. A man of wonderful integrity and respected by his colleagues.
