Columbus man sentenced in Highland County failure to comply case
A Columbus man was sentenced to two and a half years in prison recently after pleading guilty to failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer in Highland County.
As previously reported, Cornelious O. Crosby, 36, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in October and charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; and obstructing official business, a fifth-degree felony.
According to court records, Crosby pleaded guilty to the third-degree felony charge Oct. 29, with the fifth-degree felony charge dismissed.
The indictment alleged that or about Sept. 6, Crosby “did operate a motor vehicle … so as willfully to elude or flee a police officer after receiving a visible or audible signal from [the officer] to bring [his] motor vehicle to a stop.” It is alleged “the operation of the motor vehicle by the offender caused a substantial risk of serious physical harm to persons or property.”
Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Crosby to 30 months in prison, with 53 days of jail time credit. Crosby’s driver’s license will also be suspended for three years, effective Oct. 29.
Crosby is incarcerated at the Madison Correctional Institution, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
