  • Whiteoak snaps losing skid, defeats Northwest
The losing drought is over for the Whiteoak Wildcats. In recent weeks, the Wildcats have struggled to get to the win column, losing seven straight games, but Tuesday night the fortunes went to the Wildcats, who defended their home court for a 46-41 victory.

  • The Daily Press Pass: Hillsboro plays team basketball in win; SHAC girls games resume Thursday
Tuesday night was an excellent night of high school basketball for the Hillsboro Indians boys basketball team, as it seemed from my view that it was the best game the team played up to this point of the schedule.
  • The Daily Press Pass: Postponements, Friday games and more high school sports thoughts
Snowfall ruined what could have been an exciting day of high school basketball in the area, as what I felt the “Game of the Weekend” was going to be, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs at the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors, was postponed until Wednesday, Jan. 23. That said, the game I covered on Friday night was an exciting battle between two Highland County schools.
  • Lions take Round 2 against Wildcats
In the December meeting between the Fairfield Lions and Whiteoak Wildcats, the difference of the game was Whiteoak’s third frame where they took control of the game for the win. Fast-forward to Friday night, and this time it was a second-half surge by the host Lions, who took control of the game and won Round 2 of the Highland County rivalry, 78-65.

  • The Daily Press Pass: Congratulations to Shane Paul; big-time basketball games ahead this weekend
There are some solid match-ups on the slate for Friday night basketball in Highland County and the surrounding area, but before we dive into that, there is a lot to look back on from Thursday night. The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs earned their 13th straight win of the season, moving to not only 13-0 overall, but 9-0 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, as they are tied with the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors in Division I of the SHAC, who are 8-0 in the conference. The two teams are set to face each other for the first time Saturday.
