Eleven hits and late-inning runs were just enough for the Fairfield Lions to open they 2016 season on the winning side, as their game was moved to Blanchester on Saturday afternoon, but the result was one they wanted to occur.

The first game of the 2016 season saw the Fairfield Lady Lions own the non-conference game against Adena, winning via run-rule after six innings. In the second game of the twin bill, the Lady Lions didn’t have the same success, falling by a 3-2 score.

Losing a lot of their top hitting from last season and their ace pitcher, the Fairfield Lady Lions will greatly miss those players who helped lead them to a district championship last season, but they will look to continue that trend this year with the players they return and those new to the roster.

Last year under Tony Haley in his first season as the head coach of the Fairfield Lions, the young team had no seniors and were forced to learn to play at the varsity level on the fly, so to speak.
