Wildcats open home slate with convincing win

Friday night was the first and last time the Whiteoak Wildcats would have the pleasure of playing in front of their fans on their home court this month … and the Wildcats took full advantage of the opportunity as they defeated the West Union Dragons, 71-42 in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference matchup.
WHS (2-0, 2-2) led by one point after the first quarter at 11-10 and 29-23 at the half, following a second frame where they outscored the Dragons 18-13.
The best scoring quarter for WHS came following the break as they outscored WUHS 22-20, and in the final eight minutes, the Wildcats added 20 points to their overall total, while their defense held the visitors to nine.
Of the 71 points scored, Doc Seip and Luke Taggert combined for 41 points. Seip led all scorers with 21 points, including one 3-pointer and a 3-of-3 night from the free-throw line. Seip collected a double-double with 12 rebounds.
Taggert totaled 20 points with a 10-of-11 performance from the free-throw line, while grabbing eight boards.
Gage Carraher followed his fellow seniors with 12 points, and junior Tyler Williams added 10 points. Also scoring for WHS were Justin Emery (3), Brent Davis (2) and Leonard Becraft with one. Emery's three points were via a 3-pointer.

From the field, WHS made 24 two-point baskets, along with two 3-pointers and an overall 17-of-24 performance from the free-throw line.
For the Dragons, leading them in scoring was Trent Price with 11 points. James Sellars followed with eight points. AJ Frost and Dean Hall each scored six points. Also scoring for WUHS were Tim Snider (3), Adam Hall (2), Kade Miller (4) and Brady Hinkle (2).
WUHS was 6-of-11 from the free-throw line. They made two 3-pointers from Price and Sellars.
WHS will play again on Tuesday, Dec. 18 as they travel to Leesburg to face Highland County rival and SHAC foe Fairfield.
