Wildcats knock off defending champions

The Whiteoak Wildcats continue to stay on course and undefeated in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference.
Whiteoak's latest win came against the reigning champions of the conference, the Fayetteville Rockets, as it took them eight innings, but WHS left Fayetteville with a 2-1 win this week.
WHS moves to 9-5 overall and 6-0 in the SHAC.
"This team just stays on course … they continue to play the game," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "They understand there is no time clock and that even though baseball can be a negative game at times, if you stay the course, whether it be that day, or another game, second chances usually present themselves. It's about the next pitch, not the last one."
WHS didn't score their runs until the top of the seventh and eighth innings, trailing for the entire game as the Rockets (3-1, 3-5) scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning.
The game was suspended game on Tuesday due to rain, but on Wednesday, the Wildcats tied it in seventh.

Tyler Roberts led-off with a single, and a wild pitch sent him to second base. After the Rockets struck out the next two batters, Zach Docter tied the score with a two-out single to left field.
In the eighth, with two outs, Tyler Williams reached first on an infield error. Kyle Marler followed with a single, and Jason Jones singled in Williams for the eventual winning run.
"We have been tremendous offensively with two outs this year," Veidt said. "This game was no different."
Roberts led WHS at 2-for-3 from the plate, while Docter, Gage Carraher, Williams, Marler, Jones and Justin Emery each had one hit. Williams' hit was a triple.
"Docter, Jones, Roberts, Williams and Marler were clutch for us offensively when we needed them," Veidt said. "The bottom third of our order tonight were 6-for-11 on quality at-bats.
"This was a big SHAC win, going into the two-time defending champions' place and coming out on top."
The winning pitcher was Carraher, who took over on Wednesday. Carraher pitched eight innings, allowing just two hits and no walks. He struck out eight batters to improve to 4-0 on the season.
"Gage was tremendous on the mound, once again," Veidt said.
WHS will travel to Manchester on Thursday for an SHAC contest at 5 p.m.
