Wildcats gain win over Felicity-Franklin

The Whiteoak Wildcats took just two games this season to earn a victory, and they did so on Tuesday night by defending their home court for a 54-42 win over Felicity-Franklin, giving head coach Blake Kibler his first win as a high school varsity head coach.
Whiteoak (1-1) earned their win by leading after the first frame with an 11-6 score. From there, the Wildcats and Felicity each scored 12 points in the second for a 23-18 halftime lead for the hosts.
In the third, the Wildcats scored 14 points and held their opponents to nine points, and in the fourth frame the Wildcats won the quarter at 17-15 to seal the non-conference win.
“We played a solid four quarters of basketball and got a win,” WHS head coach Blake Kibler said. “We always stress we want to move things in the right direction, and we are doing that. We scored a lot off our defense. It kept us alive the entire game, and we ran with it at the end.
“We did not have a good shooting night whatsoever, so we’ll get in the gym and take a bunch of shots up at different angles. A lot of our shots around the rim and our free throw shooting were poor. Now we have to prepare for Fairfield, who is one of the premier teams in the league.”

The Wildcats were led in scoring by Traeten Hamilton with 21 points. He also had six rebounds and four steals.
Trever Yeager finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, five steals, two assists and one block.
Also scoring points for WHS were Stephen Ross with five points, while both Trevor Martin and Zach Rand each finished with four points. Atlee Carr totaled three points, and both Jimmy Lofton and Michael Crowe rounded out the WHS scoring with two points each.
For the game, the Wildcats outscored the visiting Felicity squad, 23-8. WHS finished 15-of-31 from the free-throw line, and Felicity was 10-of-17.
Next for Whiteoak is an away game at Fairfield on Friday, Dec. 8.
