Wildcats gain 1-game lead in SHAC, defeat Ripley

With 10 seconds left in a game where the Ripley Blue Jays tied the score on the previous possession, it was the visiting Whiteoak Wildcats who took the ball down the floor and Doc Seip scoring the game-winning points, lifting the Wildcats to a 59-57 win Friday night at RHS.
In a game that was important to the Division II Southern Hills Athletic Conference standings, Ripley's Jaylan Williams sank a 3-pointer with 10.7 left in regulation, tying the game.
That was a little too much time left for the visiting Wildcats, as senior Gage Carraher inbounded the ball to senior Luke Taggert, who drove the ball down the right side of the floor and passed to Seip (also a senior) at the free-throw line. Seip, who is averaging 19.2 points per game, drove right for the go-ahead basket, as time eventually ran out as the Blue Jays had no timeouts remaining.
Seip finished with a game-high 30 points, making 14 two-point baskets and finishing 2-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Taggert totaled 12 points, and Carraher ended with 10 points, including three 3-pointers.
The win moves the Wildcats to 5-2 in the SHAC Division II standings, as they sit alone atop the standings with Fairfield and Fayetteville trailing by just one game.
RHS falls to 2-4 in the SHAC, 6-7 overall.
The Blue Jays led the first frame, 14-13, followed by the Wildcats leading 12-9 in the second frame, as WHS led 25-23 at halftime.
In the third, WHS broke away for 20 points, while holding the host Blue Jays to 11 points in the same quarter. The fourth was won by RHS, 23-14, but WHS did enough to keep the lead.
The Blue Jays were led by Williams with 13 points, followed by Andrew Inskeep with 12 and Houston Brown with 10. Williams and Inskeep each made a 3-pointer.
WHS was 6-of-18 from the free-throw line, while RHS was 15-of-23.
The Wildcats are scheduled to play again on Friday, Jan. 25 as they host the Fairfield Lions.
