Wildcats fall by a single run to Blue Jays

The Whiteoak Wildcats kept the score close, but were unable to gain a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on Tuesday, falling to the Ripley Blue Jays, 12-11 at WHS.
The SHAC loss drops the Wildcats to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
WHS committed 11 errors, leading to the loss.
[[In-content Ad]]"There is no quit in these guys," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "We have improved in so many facets of the game, but the one we have yet to and need to, obviously cost us (Tuesday), and that is our ability to throw and catch. You are not going to win with 11 errors.
"It was an impressive offensive game with 14 hits."
Runs were scored early and often in the first two innings with the Blue Jays leading 5-4 after the first inning, and 8-6 after two complete, as RHS added three more runs to their total in the top of the second.
The host Wildcats scored twice in their half of the second.
WHS tied the score in the third by plating two runs, but in the fifth, it was Ripley who came back to take the lead, as they had one runner cross home plate for a 9-8 advantage.
Both teams scored three runs each in the sixth to finalize the scoring.
Jacob Burns pitched 1.1 innings for the Wildcats, allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits and one walk. He finished with one strikeout.
Andrew Herzog pitched 4.2 innings of relief, allowing four runs (none earned) on two hits and one walk.
Stephen Anderson allowed no hits or runs in his one inning of relief.
"We had excellent relief pitching with Stephen (Anderson) in his one inning," Veidt said. "Also, the number of innings pitched, and urgency of what Andrew Herzog gave us, that was big for the team."
Spencer Michael was 4-for-4 with one run at the plate for WHS, and teammate Justin Emery finished 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.
Nick Wardlow and Tyler Williams were each 2-for-3 with both players having one run and one RBI.
Jason Jones, Kyler Marler, Steven Meyers, Kyle Adams and Burns each collected one hit. Jones scored two runs and had one RBI, while Marler (who hit a double) totaled three RBIs and one run.
Meyers batted in two runners for his RBIs, and Adams' hit was a double, as he also had an RBI. Burns scored one run.
WHS will next play at Georgetown.
