Wildcats end season with sectional loss

The season of the Whiteoak Wildcats came to a close on Wednesday night with the ’Cats dropping a Division IV Sectional Semifinal game to the South Webster Jeeps by a 65-46 score at Northwest High School.

For the Wildcats (5-18), they had a tough first frame, trailing by a 16-4 score, and from there had to play catch-up for the next three frames.

In the second, WHS was outscored, 19-9 for a halftime deficit of 35-13. The second half was a lot closer for the Wildcats, as they lost the third frame by just a single point at 12-11, and in the fourth they outscored the Jeeps, 22-18, but the big-scoring quarter was too late.

Chase Carraher led the Wildcats with 14 points (including two 3-pointers), while teammate Brandon Ashbaugh totaled 11 points, with one 3-pointer.

Also for the Wildcats, Jacob Burns totaled nine points, as he also made a trey. Others to score points for WHS were Kyle Marler with four points each, while Charley Skinner, Cody McClure, Trevor Martin and Trever Yeager each scoring two points.

Seniors for the Wildcats are Kyle Marler, Jacob Burns, Brandon Ashbaugh and Josh Bowman.

The win moves the Jeeps to 10-12 overall as they will play in the sectional final game on Wednesday night at NWHS.
