Wildcats earn 3rd win; control Peebles

Before the season, the Whiteoak Wildcats knew they had to rely on their pitching to take them to their ultimate destination this season. On Tuesday, the Wildcats took the next step as senior Luke Taggert pitched a one-hit, six-inning shutout, eventually leading WHS to a 9-0 Southern Hills Athletic Conference win over Peebles.
WHS, who finished second in the SHAC one year ago, fed off the pitching of Taggert (1-0) as he not only allowed the one hit, but gave up no runs on five walks and nine strikeouts.
Blake Trueblood pitched one inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.
"Our pitching was exceptional," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "Luke and Blake both filled their roles very well."

At the plate, the success was there for the host Wildcats (3-1) as well, with the team totaling 10 hits and nine runs.
Three of those runs were knocked in by junior Tyler Williams, as he hit a three-run home run, finishing the day with four RBIs.
WHS scored three runs in each of the first two innings, while adding two in the fourth and one in the sixth inning.
Zach Docter, Gage Carraher, Kyle Marler and Justin Emery each went 2-for-3 as Docter scored three runs, Carraher had an RBI and Marler hit a double and scored a run. Emery scored two runs and had one RBI.
Taggert had one hit, with Taggert scoring two runs and tallying one RBI.
The loss drops Peebles to 0-3.
WHS plays again on Thursday as they travel to face the Eastern Brown Warriors.
