The Whiteoak baseball team gained their fifth win of the season, Monday, defeating the visiting Manchester Greyhounds, 3-2 for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win.
The win moves the Wildcats to 2-5 overall and 5-9 overall.
All five combined runs were scored in the sixth and seventh innings, with the score being tied at 2-2 after each team scoring two runs in the sixth.
[[In-content Ad]]"Kyle Marler had key execution of a hit-and-run in the sixth," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "Steven Meyers' safety squeeze was big for us."
The Wildcats walked-off in the seventh for the win, with Nick Wardlow perfecting a squeeze bunt to win the game in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
The game-winning rally in the seventh began with a Justin Emery single. Spencer Michael attempted to bunt him to second, and a wild pitch moved Emery to the base.
Michael came back with a soft grounder to third, advancing Emery to the base, with one out. Wardlow then won the game with the walk-off squeeze bunt.
At the plate, Marler was 2-for-3 with one run to led WHS.
Emery, Michael, Tyler Williams, Jason Jones and Kyle Adams each had one hit. Emery and Jones also scored runs, while Marler had an RBI.
Wardlow was also the winning pitcher, pitching a complete game of seven innings. He allowed two runs (none earned) on eight hits and one walk. Wardlow, who impress to 2-2 overall, struck out four.
"Nick was also impressive with his performance on the mound," Veidt said. "We had a lot of guys come through for us (Monday) that had been in tough situations lately with negative outcomes.
"It was great to see them succeed (Monday). Baseball can be a negative adventure at times. It's the individuals and teams that can play the next pitch or at-bat with a positive mindset and clean slate that succeed in the end.
"This was a big league win for us. Our kids executed in clutch situations very well today."
