Wildcats come up 1 run short in loss to Symmes Valley

There was lots of scoring, but the Whiteoak Wildcats just didn't get the most runs, as they allowed the game-winning run to cross the plate in the top of the seventh by Symmes Valley, falling in the non-league game by an 8-7 score.
Luke Taggert was on point for the Wildcats at VA Memorial Stadium, the home of the Chillicothe Paints, Wednesday as he went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run.
Gage Carraher, Kyle Marker, Tyler Roberts and Justin Emery each had one hit. Carraher also collected two runs and one RBI. Roberts also scored one run, as did Emery.
WHS led 2-1 after the first inning, and the score was tied at three after two. In the third, Symmes Valley collected three runs, and in the fourth, each team added one run to their total.
In the fifth, the Wildcats tied the score at 7-7 with a three-run inning. SVHS scored the winning run in the seventh.

"Defensively, there weren't many errors, but the one we had was costly, and we usually cover ground better on balls in the air," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "That was the difference in the game. Luke and Gage looked very comfortable at the plate.
"This was a great game at a great venue. We could meet up again down the road come tournament time."
The loss went to Blake Trueblood, as he pitched three innings of relief. He allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk. He struck out two.
The starter was Nick Wardlow. He went four innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
"Nick Wardlow, in his first varsity start, and Blake Trueblood were outstanding on the mound (Wednesday)," Veidt said. "You look at the line and see 11 hits, but there wasn't much hard contact, just some balls with eyes and bloopers. They both had great mound presence as well."
WHS is scheduled to travel to Leesburg Thursday as they will play the Fairfield Lions in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference matchup at 5 p.m.
