Wildcats close, but fall to Peebles

The Whiteoak Wildcats were close to a Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory on Friday night, but came up just a few points short. They played the visiting Peebles Indians close, but eventually lost by a 42-38 score.
Friday night’s game saw the Wildcats trail by a 10-9 score, but the Wildcats rallied back in the second with a 15-10 quarter for a 24-20 halftime lead.

In the third, Peebles came back with 13 points while holding the Wildcats to seven points, and in the fourth PHS had nine points and WHS had seven.
WHS (0-3, 1-3) was led in scoring by Traeten Hamilton and Zach Rand with nine points each. Hamilton made three two-point field goals and one 3-pointer. Hamilton also added four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Rand tallied four two-point baskets and one free throw conversion. He also had the team-high rebounds with one steal and one block.
Michael Crowe finished with six points (two rebounds, two assists), and Trever Yeager had five points (five rebounds, one steal and two blocks).
Rounding out the scoring for WHS was Atlee Carr with three points (two rebounds, two assists), while Jimmy Lofton (one rebound), Stephen Ross (one rebound, one assist) and Trevor Martin (one steal) each finished with two points.
“We have nothing to hang our heads about. We took their best shots, and the game was a dog fight till the end,” WHS head coach Blake Kibler said. “We may have lost in the books, but it was a victory for our program. Against elite teams like Peebles, you can’t make mistakes. We had a few too many turnovers.
“Atlee Carr did such a wonderful job on (Tanner) Arey, and our bigs did such a good job with hedging their screens. Zach Rand came off the bench and did a wonderful job inside. The main thing is moving in the right direction and on to the next game.”
Next for the Wildcats is a home non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 16 vs. New Boston.
