It was a banner day for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcat softball team. Not only did they earn a second consecutive sectional final win, but did it by knocking off the No. 4 state-ranked team in Division IV, as they traveled to and defeated the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans by a 1-0 score Saturday.

WHS scored one run in the top of the fifth inning, proving to be enough to keep the lead and gain the win. The run came when Kiley Sosby knocked in Christine Hamilton, who scored the run.

Notre Dame was the No. 1 seed in the district.

As for Sosby, a sophomore, she was the winning pitcher, recording her 500th strikeout of her career with her first strikeout of the game. Sosby finished with three strikeouts against Notre Dame, as she currently has 502 career strikeouts in just two years of high school softball. For the game, Sosby allowed no runs on four hits, walking three and hitting one batter.
