Whiteoak, Ripley combine for 23 runs in Wildcat loss

The Whiteoak Wildcats and the Ripley Blue Jays combined for a total of 23 runs, but in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference matchup at RHS on Wednesday, it was the Wildcats who came up on the losing side, falling by a score of 13-10.
The loss moves WHS to 4-6 on the season.
WHS trailed their SHAC opponent, 5-1 after the first inning, but managed to cut the deficit to two runs following a two-run third for a 5-3 score.
[[In-content Ad]]Both teams scored four runs in the fourth, but RHS added two runs in the fifth. In the sixth, WHS scored three runs, but those were answered with two runs by the Blue Jays for the eventual three-run win by the hosts.
Justin Emery led WHS at 2-for-3 with two runs.
Spencer Michael was 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBIs, as his hit was a double.
"Justin (Emery) and Spencer (Michael) were 5-for-5 in quality at-bats," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said.
Nick Wardlow had one hit, finishing with two runs and one RBI, while Jason Jones also had a hit with one run and two RBIs.
Kyle Marler was 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI, and Steven Meyers tallied one hit and two RBIs. Stephen Anderson finished with a hit and a run.
"Jason (Jones) had a clutch bases-loaded RBI single in the fourth to gives us the lead," Veidt said. "Michael had a clutch two-run double in the sixth."
The loss was charged to Wardlow, though he allowed no earned runs. Wardlow (1-2) pitched five innings, allowed eight runs (none earned) on five hits and three walks. He struck out three.
Emery pitched one inning, allowing five runs on two hits and four walks. He struck out two.
Coach Veidt summed up the day.
"Success depends on the second letter, and as individuals we need to recognize that, fix our approaches and heal," he said.
