Whiteoak defeats Glenwood, falls to Ironton St. Joseph at Wildcat Invitational
The Whiteoak Wildcats hosted their annual Whiteoak Wildcat Invitational over the weekend on Saturday, where they defeated Glenwood New Boston and fell to Ironton St. Joseph.
The wood bat invitational saw WHS end the day at 4-5 overall on the season, winning their second game played Saturday over New Boston by a 5-2 score.
WHS led 2-0 following the completion of the first inning and eventually 4-1 after four complete as they had a second two-run inning in the fourth.
Whiteoak scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth.
New Boston's runs were scored in the top of the fourth and fifth innings.
In the win, Justin Emery was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Stephen Anderson went 1-for-2 with two runs.
"Justin (Emery) had a solid offensive game," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said.
The winning pitcher was Andrew Herzog (1-0). Herzog pitched five innings, allowing two runs (none earned) on one hit and three walks. The WHS starter finished with five strikeouts.

Earning the save was Jacob Burns. Burns went two innings on the mound, allowing no runs on one hit and three walks. Burns finished with a strikeout for his second save of the spring.
"Andrew (Herzog) in his first varsity pitching start was solid for five innings," Veidt said. "Jacob (Burns) has been huge for us out of the bullpen this year.
"He gained some experience this week for a sophomore and was very impressive in some clutch situations. Their kid (Payton) pitched a nice game, holding us to a season-low three hits. Our pitching was equally impressive, only yielding two hits."
Winning the tournament was Trimble, as they defeated Glenwood New Boston, 9-0 and St. Joseph, 5-4.
In their first game of the day, Saturday, WHS lost to St. Joseph by a 9-6 score.
WHS led 2-0 after two innings, but St. Joseph came back with two consecutive three-run innings for a 6-3 advantage after four complete innings, as WHS had one run in the fourth.
The host Wildcats came back with a three-run inning of their own in the fifth inning, but in the top of the fifth St. Joseph added one run and in their half of the sixth scored two runs for what ended up being a three-run victory for the visitors.
For WHS in game one, Jones went 2-for-4.
"Jason (Jones) had a solid day at plate," Veidt said. "Their pitcher (Pemberton) pitched a nice game, going the distance."
Gaining one hit each were Spencer Michael, Tyler Williams (a double), Steven Meyers, Anderson and Burns (a double).
Michael and Williams each added two runs, and Meyers had one. Williams, Meyers and Burns each had an RBI.
The loss was charged to Anderson. He allowed four earned runs on 12 hits and one walk. He totaled three strikeouts. Herzog pitched 1.1 innings.
"Steven (Anderson) was solid in his first varsity pitching start," Veidt said.
