Whiteoak baseball moves to No. 1 in state

MOWRYSTOWN — One week after being voted the No. 2 team in the state by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association, the Whiteoak Wildcats move to the No. 1 spot in the Division IV state poll.
Whiteoak — who at the time of the vote was 15-0 — stands at 18-1 overall following a 9-3 win over No. 9 state-ranked Portsmouth Clay Monday. At the time of the vote, the Wildcats received 258 points, including 12 first-place votes, eight second-place votes, seven third-place votes and one fourth-place vote.

The Wildcats are also undefeated in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference (SHAC) at 10-0. Whiteoak still has three SHAC games remaining with a home game vs. Peebles (May 1), followed by games at Ripley (May 2) and at Peebles (May 4).
In second place was Toronto, who was voted in first place for the Week 1 poll last Monday. This week they received 252 points in the Week 2 poll, including 15 first-place votes, eight second-place votes and three third-place votes as they were 14-2 overall at the time of the vote.
In third was Carey (174), followed by Lake Ridge Academy in fourth (165) and Hicksville in fifth (128).
The sixth through 10th places in the coaches Division IV poll are: Lincolnview (105), St. Henry (93), Lima Central Catholic (91), Portsmouth Clay (85) and St. Paul (78).
In 11th place was Seneca East (57), and the rest of the Top 20 were: New Bremen (51), Minster (20), Caldwell (9), Berne Union (9), Patrick Henry (5), St. Thomas Aquinas (5), Grove City Christian (3), Centerburg (3) and Fisher Catholic (2). Also receiving a vote was Fort Loramie.
